January 31st, 1999 was a great day for the pupils of Hauptschule Deutschkreutz. They proudly presented their project "Prof. Anton Lehmden - Meeting the Arts" in the festival hall of the Raiffeisen Bank at Deutschkreutz.
Prof. Anton Lehmden, who is a world famous artist, lives at Deutschkreutz. The pupils wanted to learn about his life and work. Another reason for the project was Prof. Lehmden's 70th birthday which was on January 2nd, 1999.

The project started in September 1998. The pupils wanted to find out more about Prof. Lehmden, the owner of the castle of Deutschkreutz, and about his works which had made him famous all over the world. All the students of our school worked on the project. The project was supported by the teachers: Headmaster Josef Leser, Gabriele Artner, Johann Böhm, Eveline Fuchs, Andrea Heiszenberger, Andrea Kirnbauer, Josef Moritz, Josef Oberhofer, Rudolf Pinterich, Gertrude Schermann, Josef Schlaffer, Herbert Schlögl, Rita Weber, Maria Gager, Werner Hosiner, Dechant Ernst Zonschits, Ingrid Hallwachs. It was a project covering all subjects being taught at our school - however most of the work was done in the Art lessons. While doing the project, the pupils also learned a lot about the other artists of the so called "Wiener Schule des Phantastischen Realismus" (Viennese School of Phantastic Realism). At the same time the pupils learned a lot about the history and the myths of the castle of Deutschkreutz.

In the Geography lessons, they "visited" (on the map) all the places where Prof. Anton Lehmden had presented his paintings in various art exhibitions.
It was quite interesting to study his work in the so called "Lehmden Church" (church at Deutschkreutz).
In the Computer Science lessons the pupils prepared a Power-Point-Presentation which contains a description of the project, a biography of the artist and congratulations to the artist`s 70th birthday.
After their visit of Prof. Anton Lehmden in his castle, the children wrote down their impressions of the artist and his exhibition in English. In the Design lessons, the children built a giant mobile of birds - the birds painted by Prof. Lehmden are especially famous.

The song "Congratulations" by Cliff Richard was sung to honour Prof. Anton Lehmden. The words of the song had been tailored to the artist.

The project was documented by lots of photos and a special video.

Prof. Anton Lehmden enjoyed working with the kids - since he liked their paintings and drawings very much, he promised to present some of the children`s works (more than 100) in his next art exhibition in his castle at Deutschkreutz.
